Community Services is a division of Nueces County Community Action Agency (NCCAA) which provides a variety of programs to eligible, low income individuals and families.

 

These services include:

 

  • Assistance with utility expenses

  • Emergency food (rural areas only)

  • Rental assistance

  • Weatherization of homes (see program description)

  • Information & Referral

  • Notary Services (free)

 

Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) : (361) 882-4193

 

The Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) is a utility assistance program. CEAP is designed to assist low income households in meeting their immediate energy needs and to encourage consumers to control energy costs for years to come through energy education. The CEAP involves integration of all LIHEAP-funded programs, thereby enhancing efficiency and effectiveness of services provided to clients and eliminating duplication of services.

Client eligibility is based on income. Service Centers are located throughout Nueces County for easy access. Service Center staff assists clients in determining eligibility for all of the available programs. This process can take up to two hours for each client.Documentation needed prior to the delivery of any services are:

 

  • Complete an application and obtain all appropriate signatures

  • Proof of income for at least 30 days prior to applying (check stub, award letters etc.)

  • A valid Texas Drivers License or Texas ID

  • Social Security cards for all members of the household

 

Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) : (361) 653-3093

 

The WAP is an energy conservation program which helps to reduce the amount of unnecessary use of energy and fuel costs of low income households. The WAP performs the following home modifications in an effort to prevent the loss of energy resulting in high energy costs:

 

  • Weather stripping

  • Caulking of windows and doors

  • Patching holes

  • Insulation of walls and ceilings

  • Appliance testing

  • Replacing/Repairing HVAC systems

  • Other minor home modifications

 

These home modifications are specifically focused on improving efficiency and are not designed to improve overall home appearance.
